Where The Girl Walked

Performance/ Two-Channel Video, 14’49”, 16‘47”, Guangzhou, China, 2021

In the early morning, a man nudged a jackfruit with his hands as he walked along a path in Xiaozhou village. In the evening, another man kicked the same jackfruit while walking along the same path. Along the way, both men and the nudged kicked jackfruit passed 'Mother's Bridge' and a closed shop called 'Where the Girl Walked'. The jackfruit is a unique fruit native to the far south of China and south-east Asia. It has a barbed shell, and is usually opened violently with a knife. One of the imagery this work refers to is the local women who live with chronic violence without even realising it.
